The closer they got to her house, the more Paige’s nerves ramped up. Seriously ramped up. As in she thought she might have a heart attack because the pounding was so violent, she thought her chest might explode. The blood had rushed to her ears, making her lightheaded. Her body trembled.

“You okay?” Tanner asked as he hit the remote and pulled his truck into the garage, cutting the engine and quickly lowering the door.

He faced her, his concern obvious. “You’re white as a ghost, Paige.” He reached for her hands. “And as icy as one.”

Her teeth chattered as he rubbed her hands to warm them. “How many ghosts have you been around, Hollywood?” she teased, but her eyes filled with tears.

She pulled away from him and exited the truck, hurrying into the house. She grabbed a tissue and dabbed her eyes and then blew her nose. A glass stood next to the tissue box, about a third full, and Paige grabbed it, downing the water, telling herself to chill out as she placed the glass on the table again.

Tanner came up behind her, slipping his arms around her, pulling her against him. “We don’t have to do anything, sweetheart.”

She grasped his muscled forearms. “But I want to. I’m eager to explore . . .things.”

“I understand you’re nervous. Even a little afraid. I won’t push you to do anything you don’t want to do.”

Paige let out a frustrated breath. “I’m not even sure what we’ll do. I feel utterly foolish, Tanner. I’m thirty years old. Intellectually, I understand what’s involved with sex. I’ve read romance novels. I’ve seen some pretty sexy movies. I just can’t picture me doing any of that. With you. Besides, you’ve done it a lot. You’re Tanner Sex God Haddock. Every woman wants to be with you. Every man wants to be you. I’ve barely learned how to kiss this week.”

He turned her in his arms and gave her a deep, wonderful kiss. He broke it, gazing into her eyes, a ghost of a smile on his sensual lips.

“And look how good you’ve become at it after only a few times.”

“You think so?” she asked, feeling zero confidence.

Tanner caressed her cheek. “Do you think I would have kissed you if I didn’t like it? If I didn’t like you?”

Her breasts tingled. So did the back of her neck. And a low throb had begun at her core.

“I do like you. I like kissing you.” Paige rolled her eyes. “I never thought I’d say that to any man.”

“Don’t think. Just do,” he urged, his mouth coming down on hers again for a kiss that curled her toes and caused her heart to palpitate.

Breaking the kiss, he said, “See? That was easy. We just kissed. We did what came naturally to us.”

She swallowed. “You think sex will be the same? Even though I have no idea how to even get started?”

His lazy smile caused her heart to slam against her ribs. “First, we aren’t going to have sex. We’ll be making love with one another.
